Rutherford’s Well

Anwoth

A stunning morning at the beach and some great geology (extras) and after a return trip to Cairn Holy I went in search of Rutherford’s Well (Rutherford was the minister at Anwoth in the 1600’s and became Professor of Divinity at St.Andrew’s University).

The second photo shows the well in the foreground and the Anwoth Old Kirk in the background (used for filming The Wicker Man).
Then the real hunt was on to find the vitrified fort and Pictish stones. They don’t make it easy but I was chuffed when I found them https://www.scotsman.com/news/lost-dark-age-kingdom-discovered-in-galloway-1-4342467
The bottom shot is the view from the top looking into the remote Southern Uplands ...it was looking stunning in every direction.
