Geese commuting
The Solway is a winter (and summer) home to tens of thousands of wildfowl.
This shot is zoomed a lot on a phone camera. It’s probably difficult to see, but there are probably one hundred geese commuting in the sky there. I’m not sure what type of geese, but the likely species are Canada, Greylag, Barnacle, or Pink-footed (or a mixture thereof).
When I run down to The Moss I can always hear the geese talking to each other and I usually see them as well. Sometimes there are swans as well, which always gives me a special thrill.
For those who want to know more about wildfowl on the Solway, a good day out can be had at the WWT reserve over the border in Scotland, at Caerlaverock.
