Rural scene in Adams County
Monday
The forecast was fairly good for the day, dry with periods of sun and clouds, so we had decided to go out for the day. However, we were a little late getting going, and then Laura called - she’d had a bad day, and wanted someone to talk/vent to - so that delayed us a bit more, but we eventually got off late morning, and headed to one of our favourite hikes, the Edge of Appalachia Preserve in Adams County. We have done this several times now, but previously in Spring, when it is great for wildflowers, but we hadn’t done it in the Fall. The first part of the drive heading east out of the Cincinnati suburbs isn’t that exciting, being along a dual carriage way, so I was reading my book for Book Club next week, Little Fires Everywhere, but when you get off the dual-carriage way and get onto the country roads, it gets more scenic, and we passed several fields of cows, a field with goats and several with horses, including the one shown in my blip - there are a number of Amish farms in the area. Our hike led up through woodland to a viewpoint called Buzzards Roost. Unfortunately there was rather more cloud than sun by this point - from time to time there would be a glimpse of sun beautifully accenting the leaf colours, predominantly gold/yellow, however, by the time we reached the viewpoint there were only a few tiny patches of blue sky left, and the hillsides looked rather dull. We sat and ate our sandwiches, looking out at the view, and just once in a while there would be a shaft of weak sunlight moving across the hills brightening the colours. Typically, as we made our way back down the hill, the sun began to win back again, and as you can see from my blip taken on our return, we enjoyed a mainly sunny drive back!
