The Pumpkin Riders, A Dancing Girls Adventure
The pumpkin and gourd displays at the Arboretum have been outstanding this year. I've visited often, but usually by myself. On this day, I was not alone. Far from it! I was accompanied by the last Dancing Girl, her retinue of fancy steeds, and the Crittergators!
The Dancing Girl chose a pink piglet to ride this year. She said it matched her dress, and so I cannot blame her. The faithful orange and black cat-steeds rode on either side, like bodyguards.
And we traveled around the Arboretum, trying to see it all! She ogled the lily pond. She sat daintily on Ferdinand the bull. She posed - and became art - in the garden kaleidoscope. She checked out a wigwam. She and her brave pals made friends with the rattlesnake who guards the gates of the children's garden. (See the shot in the extras.)
But mostly, we just had good, old-fashioned fun. The kind that will stay with us forever. Remember when you were young and lovely and free, and you had your besties with you, and life was beautiful, and all you had to do was ride pumpkins all day long? Yes, it was like that!
The soundtrack is a song for the brave pumpkin riders: Christopher Cross, with Ride Like the Wind.
