Quilt Again

Had Al's Parent's Consultation at EH today. He is doing so well, I felt I could tell how much he was acheiving, but it is so nice to hear it from the experts too. What a joy it is is to hear such sincere praise for his intelligence, hard work, progress, his lovely personality, and his original way of thinking, rather than a sort of bored indifference combined with mind-bogglingly low aspirations that have clearly been recycled on a regular basis since about 1998.

Anyway, academic progress is only a means to an end; the mother of one of Betsy's friends who has been in and out of our house for the last five years called it right when she saw him for the first time in about three months recently, and commented that he is like a completely different boy - so much more confident, chatty and self-possessed.

Came home and finally finished the quilt. I'm sure if I make another one I will make a better job of it all round, particulary the edging, but I am pleased with it all the same. As well as the Super Hero fabrics, it is made from pieces of some of Al's old favourite shirts, with the reverse made from some of his old brushed cotton pyjamas - worn soft with age. I have embroidered 'For Al David, Christmas 2012' on the bottom edge too. I hope he will like it. The cats certainly do - they cannot leave it alone when I am working on it!

Al went out for tea and Betsy and I had some nice time together alone which was lovely.

Both of them had a big pile of homework to do. Betsy has to make a speech in French about someone in her family and has chosen Al. She asked him his likes and dislikes. He said he likes Harry Potter, Merlin, Music, Acting, writing stories and Drama. He does not like Football or Mrs Smith, who is a supply teacher he had about a year ago whose meaness he has never, ever forgotten!
