Tiny Tuesday - Stamen
Today I was in charge of the four children again - my two and my sister's two. They came to our house and we played a little during the morning and I made lunch, after which we went to a local park for a play.
The walk gave me opportunity to take some photographs and I decided on this one of a dandelion. I did have to check whether this would be acceptable and I found some interesting information. Apparently the dandelion yellow flower is actually many flowers grouped together. Each yellow petal is an individual flower in its own right. Each individual flower has its own stamen and pistil and can therefore reproduce without fertilisation. The seed is attached to fluffy white threads, which allow it to fly to a place where it can create another dandelion.
Anyway... This afternoon the children played a few more games, including hide and seek which lasted ages! I couldn't help but feel a little nostalgia - remembering when I played this as a child. Such traditional games that get forgotten in an era of computers and technology.
I managed to get the pumpkins carved ready for tomorrow and used the pumpkin flesh to make a delicious pumpkin and sweet potato curry! I have never cooked pumpkin before and I am so pleased I did! How much perfectly good food gets wasted at this time of year through pumpkin carving must be absolutely staggering!
We are going away for a few days on Thursday so I got some of the things ready to pack this evening and also bits and pieces ready for our day out tomorrow.
Here is a lovely quote that fits the theme and my photo today:
"When the world had you feeling like a weed in the garden,
Know that someone out there sees you as a wish; and a beacon of hope."
