Transports of Delight Revisited
MrsDroog had a lovely surprise for me today: a trip along the Settle - Carlisle line on a train hauled by a steam locomotive.
We travelled first class and were treated to a sumptuous breakfast: mine was smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on toast. Dinner was pork with all the trimmings. We also shared a bottle of champagne.
In Carlisle we did some light shopping (MrsDroog bought a lovely new coat at my suggestion) and then re-boarded the train for the journey homeward.
This is the locomotive which hauled us between Hellifield and Carlisle. It is a Stanier-class, which was built for the former London, Midland and Scottish Railway in 1942. You can read more about it here.
Here is a suitable tune.
What a lovely way to spend a day!
