Off course

Just when the building construction was getting interesting on the South Bank near Sea Containers House on Upper Ground, they closed the road.

I should have seen it coming but as a National Cycle Network link it really shouldn't be closed.

Cycle London City on 26 November explains further -- 700 bicycles an hour take this route but to make it safer during construction they have routed all the cycles to a busier road and added a busy intersection and the Imax roundabout to the journey. Safer???!!!

Now I need to amend my journey because the Upper Ground is the reason I cycle the 'long way' round to the office, as any street with minimal traffic is bliss. But now in addition to crossing at Blackfriars I get to navigate Stamford Street the Imax roundabout. With buses. And four lanes of traffic. There may be 5,500 cyclists a day on the Waterloo roundabout but it is a place I avoid!

Anyway, this construction site caught my eye and I rested from the stress of a busy junction and took a deep breath before hitting the road to Waterloo.
