Tour of Thamesmead

So, this is exciting- Philip, thanks for letting me join your gang.
How does it work?
In all day and at 3 o’clock Jo (my better half) says, “Why don’t we go for a walk?”
The sun’s still out so that sounds like a good idea- but where to?
The Green Chain walk is calling:
So much better to have a route, takes the decision making out of a walk.
So we set off on an adventure:
• through Shrewsbury Park
• across Plumstead common- when you drive past you don’t realise it’s so big
• Winn’s common and the Slade pool- never been there before!
• Bostall Heath and Woods
• on to Lessness Abbey ruins- never been here before either.
Then a stroll through the greener bits of Thamesmead. To my surprise we encounter interesting scenery and a lot of wildlife:
Canadian geese
Swans
Various ducks
and a heron
It’s dark by the time we hit the river but very calm and clear.
• we complete the last leg along the river to Woolwich.
After 11 miles we are our last legs so have a pint in the Dial Arch before catching the 244 home.
