Cake!

For the most part, I think it's true to say that no one really takes advice. Oh sure, if you wanted to buy, say, a new laptop and had a techie friend who could tell you exactly the best one to get, you might take *that* advice but when deep down you know what you really want to do - and you usually do - then you'll ask the person who'll most likely tell you what you want to hear.*

Which, actually, can be a useful tool, if you're aware of it. Like when I woke up this morning, feeling a bit under the weather and knowing that I've been running a cold in the background for the last few days, I thought "Maybe I'll check in with Steve", who, guaranteed, would have said "Oh yeah, just run it off." And then I thought "Maybe I'll ask IntoTheHills" who would have wisely counselled me on the benefits of rest and healing. As soon as I found myself thinking of texting the latter, I had my answer!

Thus, today was an exercise free day. One thing I did do, though, was go shopping with Abi and Milly to buy all the ingredients for a Christmas cake. And then Mill sat with me in the kitchen, nursing a glass of fizz, chatting to me, while I made the cake. I'm really pleased with how it turned out (the new cooker is great!).  Now it goes into hibernation, with fortnightly rousings for a drink of brandy.

*So if you want an unjustifiable upgrade to pretty much anything, just say the words "I was thinking of buying a new —" to me and I'll reply "Deffo! Go for it!"
