Frugal Pickings
My early morning walk was necessarily brisk today; a very cold Northerly was blowing down from the hills. I stood in an open gate, my dog and three cats urging me to get moving, and marvelled at the power that seemed to be held within the bowl of hills. A dozen geese flew across the glen, their eldritch voices lifting my spirits still further.
Later, tucking in to a bowl of porridge and honey (yum, thanks Tom!) I thought about the wild creatures and how very differently they are affected by the seasons; how many must face starvation, death from the cold or floods.
Walking through the garden on my way to work, I paused to watch a bonnie blackbird in the apple tree, breaking his fast on the few remaining fruits.
