Out on the Moor
Backblip #2
It had been an early start meeting up at 6 am for the sunrise - not a good one though! Back for breakfast (that was a good one!) before out again using the centre's minibus. The workshop was led by Peter Hendrie - an excellent photographer - who knows the area thoroughly; he was able to take us to good viewpoints and point out features. Peter balanced the amount of instruction and advice with allowing us to follow our own ideas. I find it hard to see the 'bigger picture' as my eye is naturally drawn to details. I was also struggling with cold hands and a ball head on the tripod - so hard to get positioned when conditions are less than ideal; I think a geared (even though heavier) head is needed for that particular tripod.
On the drive across the moor we came across our first Exmoor ponies - we just had to stop for a few minutes. There are a lot of gnarled and lichen covered branches and trees on the moor, so this view through sums up the scene.
Lots more stops and photos along the way. A full day out and not back to the centre (now warm) until time for the evening meal, then straight into a critique session. Interesting to see what others had done too. I was very much out of my comfort zone so good to be challenged towards other experiences and skills.
