Saving our planet (continued)

First to report that the discussion group on the plastic armageddon went well. We all agreed that the changes in our lifestyle (to avoid any single use plastic products) were scratching the surface. But if we all scratch together we should be able to influence supermarkets and coffee shops and manufacturers.

Now to turn to Biodiversity.
This morning’s papers carry the statement from the head of the U.N. Convention on Biological Diversity that we have two years to come up with plans for worldwide protection of birds, insects, plants and mammals. They are all essential for the production of food, clean water and carbon sequestration. Without them we may be the first species to bring about our own extinction.

This adds to the importance of The Launch of an appeal for £100,000 by the Arnside and Silverdale AONB Landscape Trust. Our appeal was launched two nights ago and my blip shows some of our appeal literature and the Trust’s Website.

The Trust is a Charity with over 1,000 members devoted to protecting and enhancing the landscape and wildlife of our beautiful area. We already have four nature reserves and we are now raising funds to pay for a fifth.
