For pigs poultry and pigeons

We have passed this building a number of times and today walked along to take a closer look. When researching the information later on I came across a piece about a landslide from the mountain above us onto the village in 1906 when nine people died. The event was commentated in a number of was on the hundredth anniversary.

This building appeared in the photograph from 1906, it was narrowly missed with the house next to it destroyed. From the information gleaned the lower part of the building was used to house pigs, the first floor a place for chickens at night, it was safe from predators and easy to collect the eggs and in the roof a pigeon loft. Isn’t that roof beautiful! Other information described the building as an annex to the main house and would denote the wealth of the farmer, sadly this was the house destroyed, however another has replaced it.. (More information, the first floor housing the chickens must have originally included a secure, quite fancy front, looks like fret work).
