Almond Firework?

I've been tied to the house today, waiting for the windscreen replacement chap to arrive to sort out my car.  Its given me the opportunity to bake some bread, deal with the ironing and make this cake.  It's a rich fruit cake for Cathy's birthday just after New Year.  It will improve with a little time in the tin to age before we eat it :-). As daughter Jess won't be home that weekend I've made it with normal (non-gluten free) ingredients, and it does look and smell absolutely wonderful.

I showed this shot to Cathy, who said it almost looked like one of the fireworks that are going off outside, and I can sort of see where she's coming from :-)
