Is it just me?

Maybe I have it wrong. Maybe I just have to get "with the program".  Perhaps (as a child of the 50s) I'm just too old to understand .... or just possibly the contemporary health and safety thing does get a little silly at times. So far as I can see, the clear and present danger within this rig is an old surveyor's peg. I can hear the megaphone now. "Stand clear folks. Step AWAAAAY from the surveyor's peg".
