Pilot Gig training at Porlock Weir

I spent a happy afternoon watching lots of messing about with a training gig and a ‘borrowed’ gig from Ilfracombe at Porlock Weir. It was a complete surprise as the pilot gig group there has only recently been formed . I have watched the gig racing in the Scillies many times . It’s brilliant that Porlock is getting going although they need to raise at least £40000 to purchase a gig and the they will heed a gig shed. It was strange to see the one gig being towed by a kayak as it passed under the footbridge from the back of the harbour.
It looked as though they were being interviewed for the radio in the first photo and there was a drone filming them so maybe coming to our screens soon ! :))
