Diary of an Edinburgher

Bad news and good news

Had a relaxing morning downloading a few new albums. These went on my iPod and accompanied me all day. Only thing is, I can't listen in to folks' conversations on the buses, but then I don't have to listen to cell phone conversations either. Swings and roundabouts.

When I was packing up my camera bag (which I still have) to go out, I noticed that my remote wasn't there. Searched all over. Then I remembered what must have happened - Chamaeleo don't read the next paragraph - when I was taking LEs of the river torrents yesterday, I took the remote off to move along a bit, and put it in my pocket, not my bag. Well, perhaps not quite ALL in my pocket. I then fiddled about and continued on the pathway.

I knew exactly where it must have been dropped. And it would still be there - nobody else would have gone down near the river. So I retraced my steps. Hunted around. No remote. Maybe it was dropped on the path. No remote. Maybe somebody found it and hung it up on the railings like people do with kids' toys. No remote. Not remotely a remote.

So I came back up to town. I was going to meet an ex-colleague at a French patisserie. Nearby there was a shop that might sell camera remotes. It sells just about everything, but it's a bit baffling. You look in a book, or search on screen, up it pops, you write a number down and go and show it to someone. It's very very efficient. People were sitting waiting like at the doctor's. Only not as long.

The new remote is infra-red. So I don't need to be attached to the camera by a two foot cord. Therefore no wet feet when the tide comes in. It's what I should have got in the first place.

I had a wee test, as it didn't mention it worked with my camera. It didn't seem to work. Read instructions. Took out my camera manual (brownie points for always having it in my bag!) and hey presto! I should have blipped the photo of my thumb that I took remotely.

My pal couldn't make it. Which was actually a bonus because I could then stand and watch the amazing sunset. I took loads of photos as it got pinker and pinker. But I wasn't quite in the right spot. I'm sure lots of blippers were, though. I'll put a sunset one in the folio.

The blip I chose today is just a street shot. Haven't done one of these for a while. The smoker saw me, but chap with the feathers didn't. I kept walking, just in case they both came after me.
