Wet Wet Wet

Flood waters hit Oxford! We woke up to an extraordinary silence from the main road - never good. It can only mean snow or flood waters. Just two little puddles in my garden this morning that gradually merged and expanded into a swimming pool over the day. Popped round to see friends Richard and Andrea who were getting breeze blocks under their piano and trying to work out how many sandbags they would need to actually make a difference rather than be a token effort.

My new neighbour Stephanie called, her power has been out all days we got her over for supper, warmth, light, gin and tonics. The flooding is horrible and stressful, but it also brings together our community in such a supportive way. I'll work from home tomorrow to keep an eye on the rising waters and the boys - who arrived home from school soaking wet from the knee down - WILL wear wellies tomorrow even if it is really really uncool.

Probably the lowest point was when the Environment Agency van pulled up with a boat on the roof.... oh dear.

I didn't have much time to go off with the camera (will try harder tomorrow) but this is the major road junction near our house, usually one of the busiest junctions in Oxford.
