Soyuz Descent Module - backblip

 You are looking at the spacecraft that brought British astronaut Captain Tim Peake safely back to earth on 19th June 2016.  After spending six months on board the International space Station, Peake returned to earth with Russian Yuri Malenchenko and American Tim Kopra.  Their Russian made spacecraft had to slow from over 27,000km/h as it hurtled through earth's atmosphere .  Its outer surface was heated to more than 15000c, leaving it scorched and charred.  After a four hour journey  the craft parachuted down on to the plains of Kazakstan.

And today we saw the real thing on the last day of its  display in Peterborough Cathedral.  It was beautifully presented with computer graphics of the original blast off, Tim Peake's arrival on to the ISS and the spacecraft descent module on its final approach to earth   Oh my what an amazing feat and Peterborough Cathedral itself is stunning too.
