I picked up this bit of oak (on the left) from the old oak picnic tree on 9th March 2013. I’ve sat with it ever since, trying to work out how to use it. Initially I wondered about trying to work out earrings but I couldn’t find a way of splitting it. On and off I’ve looked at it, loved it’s shape, oiled it, but not been able to work out what to do. Over time it has hardened deepened in colour and this year I finally decided to make a feature of it on this cafetière cosy. Bit weird but there you go! I then made the buttons from a very ancient poetic yew.
Finally I took It through to my friend for her birthday.
