Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

2018 Tuesday — Campus Office

In the 28 years I’ve been teaching, my office has never felt so full of books, of materials (files and files of papers), of student papers (I keep a copy of everything they submit for a grade), and supplies.

When I get back to my desk after a morning of teaching, I just make a clearing in the middle of my desk and start or continue the paper grading. At this point in the semester, I feel like I am in an avalanche of papers to grade. I’m just overwhelmed. However the in-class essays are all graded AND that feels like astronomical accomplishment.

The bad news is that the next essay project is being collected this week. Oh the joy! I get to spend hours and hours doing more grading. At least this batch of papers will be typed. Reading the handwritten in-class essays is too often very difficult because of their terrible penmanship.

This is Week 11 of our 16 week semester. The Finish Line is going to be under our feet in moments, and then I’ll return their final projects and they’ll exit for the last time and I’ll stand there thinking about all the things I forgot to tell them.

From SoCal,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
