Khan Al Khalili
First day off after the course and it was lovely not to have to get up and out in the morning! Bb and I texted back and forward in the morning as he was getting ready to go off on his next adventure and then I followed his flight path during the day when I was having lunch with Nick, Doaa (Egyptian colleague and friend) and our assessor Claire P from Seville in a lovely Lebanese lunch in Zamalek - Nick's treat. I continued to follow his path as we all headed downtown to Cairo's biggest souk, Khan Al Khalili market. No underground pass this time, but we followed Doaa across the busy street, dodging the cars and bikes and squeezed ourselves through the opening in the railings. Friday afternoon seems quite a good time to go - not too busy, but still atmospheric. I bought a lamp, the kind that Bb and I have had our eye on for a while, N bought a clock and Claire bought a few wall pieces for gifts, one for herself and some lovely coasters with Arabic messages. We parted ways in Zamalek and Claire and I went for a wander there and then a drink in The Rooftop, while N and D headed home. By the time I'd put the light off at night, I'd received a text to say he'd arrived safely. Am now awaiting his first blip!
