Crested caracara
Up early, breakfast, a little more hummer photography and then several hours drive to our next location in the Pacific lowlands of Costa Rica. Once we'd checked into our lodge and had lunch we were off to spend the afternoon on the river. So many amazing sights awaited us...two species of Caracara (Crested seen here), a Common Black Hawk, iguana, crocodiles, and one of the most iconic and odd birds ever, the Boat-billed Heron. We also got to catch a wonderful sunset on the river - magic!
Back at the Lodge, we were all ready for showers - in our outdoor showers! All perfectly modest, and mine had a fairly large tropical "garden" next to the shower and commode. Instructions were to leave the lights on at night to keep bats from roosting under the ceiling (duly noted!). And I was delighted to see a lovely decorative frog situated right at the corner of the shower curtain rod - a lovely and whimsical element. At dinner I asked what others had on their shower curtain rod ... and got a lot of blank looks and then a lot of laughs. Yes, that lovely "decorate" frog was in fact a real frog and he was gone when I returned to my room after dinner.
The adventure continues!
