selfie (sort of)

You know what it’s like when you hand your camera to a complete stranger; there’s much the same dread and sense of foreboding as when a stranger hands their camera to you.

“It’s all set up - you don’t have to do anything - just press this”.  It usually ends in tears.

We’re out on the bikes this morning.  I decide I’d like a picture of me riding the bike.  Apart from the shear vanity, there is a good reason.  I spend ages fiddling with the position of the saddle and handlebars to alleviate any possibility of neck pain or backache and when I think I’ve got it just right, I want to check it out with a photo.  Arms and torso should make a rough 45 degree triangle.  For me, anyway.

Anniemay is a stranger to my little Fuji.  She’s seen it often enough.  But never picked it up, let alone pressed THIS.  But she’s game to have a go.  So for the sake of my blip, you have to imagine her as a tripod.  But an intelligent one - she has to press the shutter at the right moment……

It takes a few attempts to get it right.  The first is completely over-exposed (???), the second is just an empty frame - “sorry, missed you….”  I’m going the wrong way in the third ….  I bet Cecil B deMille never had this problem.

“That’s a wrap” she eventually shouts.  She’ll be wanting a chair with her name stencilled on the back next.

I faff around with the best of the bunch so I can claim some creative input to the final result.
