Galley Head
I dragged Himself out to see a holy well today, actually two, but fortunately they were in a very scenic part of the word. Doing a bit of research for one well I'm mentioning in my talk next week, a wonderful story has appeared about how the BVM, having first perched on a fishing boat, landed near this well in the guise of a swan! She knelt down to pray at the well, presumably now saintly rather than animal, and left her knee prints in a stone. I wanted to check if the stone was still there. Not as far as we could see. The well is on top of a cliff with magnificent views and as we came down had a yomp on Red Strand which was looking amazing in all directions. Glimmers to the edge, waves in the centre and a huge rainbow behind. If you look closely in the main pic you can just see Galley Head lighthouse.
We then rewarded ourselves with lunch in Clonakilty and a mooch around the town, which is very pleasant - lots of small and interesting shops, bright colours and old shop fronts. That's enough excitement for one day.
