Fallen leaf in Yew
The bokeh in this shot is the tree from which the leaf fell.
Rob and I attended the service of Remembrance by the War Memorial today. There must have been a couple of thousand people there, including many children. Someone read out the letter received by their family on the death of their relative and it was very moving.
My Father served in WWII and his Father in WWI so I grew up with references and stories that made the wars still feel recent. Our picnic blanket was always laid over Dad's army cape (we called it the ground sheet) and Dad's tool bag was an old army bag, his tin water canteen was always hanging in the understairs cupboard I intend to gather the photos and stories for my great niece and great nephew as they never knew my parents and it is all part of the family history. I hope the impacts of wars both historic and modern continue to be part of the curriculum in schools. I feel an understanding of the horror of war and the need to undertake every possible step to achieve peace between nations needs to be understood by all. Lest we forget.
