Poppy Day
After a very good breakfast, D and I left our hotel and walked down The Strand towards Whitehall to see if we could get anywhere near the Remembrance Day celebrations. We ended up in Birdcage Walk which was on the route to The Cenotaph but we couldn’t get any nearer. It was excellent watching the bands march past and we even had a brief glimpse of Harry & Meghan, Kate & Wills, Charles and The Queen as they were driven past. At 11 o’clock , the crowds fell silent for 2 minutes. It was an eerie and unnerving silence, unlike anything I’ve witnessed before.
Afterwards, we walked back to The Waldorf to check out and headed home.
Mum and dad survived the weekend (as did the children) .
Back to reality tomorrow but for now it’s a Thai takeaway and a nice bottle of red as it’s 21 years since D and I got engaged so as well as having our own little Poppy, it’s always a special day for us.
