When Fergus walked round Cow Hill
Drove up to Fort William and went into Glen Nevis. Parked in the Braveheart car park. We thought we would try the Cow Hill circuit walk. One of the leaflets in our holiday cottage said it was 4 miles and it looked to follow a contour round the hill after an initial ascent. We enjoyed most of it, but there were more steep slopes than we were expecting and we were glad to have missed out the section which turns off the path and goes to the summit. I checked later on the Walkhighlands website.
From the Walkhighlands website.
Cow Hill is the summit that blocks the view of Ben Nevis from Fort William. It gives an enjoyable circuit with fine views, both over the town and down Glen Nevis and Loch Linnhe. Good, marked paths throughout. The walk involves a fair amount of steep ascent and descent. 7 miles.
We went and got some sandwiches and had lunch at the Braveheart car park which has decent views of the lower slopes of Ben Nevis.
For an easier walk we decided to go along the River Nevis walk we had done in September. We walked along to the Visitor centre, crossed the bridge and walked along the riverbank path. At the Youth Hostel we decided to come back the way we had come rather than go across and up to the paths on the opposite slope (to Dun Deardail and the last part of the West Highland Way).
