Olives finished

We’ve harvested about 250kgs. Way down on last year. On last year’s olive to oil ratio that’s about 45 litres divided by six families.

Another injury today with another picker at casualty. He’s expecting a wait of 6-7 hours. The warm humid weather turning everything slippery.

Picking olives is usually accompanied by considerable pruning as can be see by photo. Idea is to keep trees low with a vase-like form whilst cutting out vertical branches which bear little fruit which is borne on one year old wood. Trees are surprisingly vigorous and prone to suckering.
