Arnside – Monthly Ramble
This month we walked about 6 to 7 miles around the Arnside area in Cumbria. We visited this pele tower before walking up to the top of Arnside Knott. Pele towers, also spelt peel, are fortified keeps or tower houses. This free-standing tower was built in the late 14th or early 15th century. It would have been four or five storeys, but it isn’t in very good condition. There are signs warning people not to go inside.
When we set off it was raining but by 1pm it had brightened up.
