Scenes From the Cemetery

I don't know the entire story, but evidently in an abandoned funeral home in Detroit...50-60 boxes of cremated remains were found. Among the 50-60 were 20 servicemen.

Today, those 20 soldiers came home to Great Lakes National Cemetery for a proper burial. Adding to the sadness, I think 18 of the 20 were unclaimed by any family or friends.

1. Counterclockwise, the flags are unfolded, then folded. 2.The man in charge delivers the flag to one of the many funeral directors who stepped up to deliver the cremains. 3. In this case, a family member accepts the flag.

It's amazing to me that a large group of people can remain silent for so long. The ceremony took 90 minutes, and you could have heard a pin drop. Very solemn...very moving.

As the priest at the end of the program said..."May they rest in peace."
