The Elephant that Walked to Manchester

Wandering back from work in London and scouting for blips, I stumbled on a Manchester story. Bought for £680 and bound for Belle Vue Zoo in 1872, Maharajah the elephant had enough of train travel and understandably kicked his way out of the crate. The decision was then taken to walk him to Manchester. Full story in David Barnaby's book, which I'll be seeking out next. Anderson and MacGregor immortalised him in sculpture and he now welcomes visitors to the Taj Residences and Restaurant at 51 Buckingham gate.
