Birch and beech

The woods are resplendent in their autumn foliage. Stately plantations of beech, with their smooth grey trunks, have vivid copper-red foliage (see extra) while the rough-barked oaks have leaves of a bronzer hue. But it is the silver-trunked birch that I love most, its fluttering golden leaves contrasting perfectly with a sky of pure azure.
