The lake and the pond have almost joined up.

Flood defences are so much better than during the July 2007 floods. Where there are a lot of houses near to an expanse of water known to be at risk of breaking its banks, long, temporary, plastic 'dams' have been put up. I went to see one this morning that the water hadn't  reached yesterday. Today it was not only keeping out rising water, but was also enabling water to be pumped into this lake from an overflowing stormwater drain in a nearby street. At all the most vulnerable places I have seen, there are officials monitoring what is happening. Last time most of the work was left to residents. It's good to know we can learn lessons.

Our home is still above the floodline.
