In search of a new life

We spent a splendid few hours at Jarrow Hall, the Anglo-Saxon Farm, Village and Bede Museum, in Jarrow. The museum is very impressive, but the highlight was when we arrived at the 'village' with its Anglo-Saxon reconstruction buildings, where we were lucky enough to meet Jim. A volunteer with a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm, he became our guide, explaining everything expertly. We were fascinated.

In the blip he is describing to Gordon how they are working on reconstructing a traditional boat, the kind a group of Anglo-Saxons would have used to get themselves across to Britain to settle into a new life. The first extra shows the inside of the hall where we sat by a fire (it was very smoky) whilst he regaled us with how the hall was used as an early 'pub'.

A beautiful day, mild with lots of sunshine. We started the day with gorgeous light across the Marina (extra 2) and ended the afternoon by catching the last of the sun beside the sea at South Shields (extra 3)
