IIII or IV ?

I'm not going to lose sleep over this, but shouldn't there be "IV" instead of "IIII" in the clock (in my lampshade) as four? I was going to vent my heart out about (ok, not really ;)) companies bothering to check the roman numbers before putting them on commercial products, but then I read that "IIII" is often used in clocks nowadays. Now I don't know what to believe. I'm at loss, maybe I will lose my sleep over this... Help!
