Kirkcudbright Bay
Today's the day …………………….. for an estuary
This is the broad estuary of the River Dee, south of Kirkcudbright where it disappears off into the Solway Firth.
It takes its time though, meandering past a peninsula of land known as St Mary's Isle - the dark shape on the left hand side. The fishing boats and the yachts that make their way to berth up in Kirkcudbright have to wait until the tide is in their favour - and then negotiate a complex path between red and green buoys.
It's a place that is in constant change. Sometimes it is proper sea and at others, like now, it is a muddy haven for all kinds of wildlife …………………….
