Disaster!

I attended a Northwest Deanery CPD event in Manchester today.
The day started with an update on the "Dental Pilots" (I thought it was a film about flying aces) - no not really.
The second part was forensic odontology. It was about the importance of dental charting and good record keeping and how it is a vital aid to identifying disaster victims, such as in the tsunami. Apparently identification via the dentition was even more successful than identification via DNA.
It could be seen as a gruesome topic but it was fascinating. As the professor said - early identification of a victim is key to the bereavement and grieving process.
Interesting stuff.
