This evening was a bit of an adventure, after seeing Stephen I took a bus to Horsforth to collect a £30 Gumtree mountain bike.  The bloke who sold it was clearly an expert mansplainer, though not an expert bike mechanic.  After agreeing with him on many erroneous points I then had to ride home along the ring road in the rain, having remembered lights but not any bike tools, pump, etc.  The tyres were too soft, the saddle too high, and the front derailleur useless.  I managed to keep it in the middle chain ring and (clutches pearls) cycled on the pavement for a while, in a general life-preserving way.
