One of the four trees of power, dating back to the Battle of Ichi-no-tani in 1184. The Heike army established the Ikuta forest as an eastern camp and lay troops and set barricades on the Ikuta river. Taira Tomomori was the  general who engaged the forces of Noriyori of the Genji army in battle. In the grounds of Ikuta Shrine grows the "quiver plum," of which it is said that Kajiwara Genta Kagesue placed a fully bloomed plum blossom in his quiver and fought gloriously. Kajiwara's Well and bamboo were afforded reverence by the legendary warrior monk Saito Musashibo Benkei when he visited Ikuta Shrine as a representative of Minamoto Yoshitsune.
