Guurtje van der Stadt by Claude Monet (1871)
Seen in the Zaans Museum
This is the only portrait that Monet painted during his stay in Zaandam. Claude Monet painted the 14-year-old daughter of timber merchant Van der Stadt. Guurtje was in mourning because her father had died shortly before. The black dress refers to it.
