Weird and Wonderful Christmas Lights
Edinburgh's festive programme was officially launched tonight with the big turn on of the Christmas lights. From a lofty view point of the Scott Monument I watched a fantastical a theatrical event unfold. Starting with a strange giant robotic Santa marching up the Mound through the crowds with an Elf at the controls. Things really took off, quite literally, with strange aerial performances and pyrotechnics. It was then time for Santa's Dream machine to burst into action spiting out smoke and fire and with giant cogs turning produced supper large Christmas presents helped along by Santa's Elves. By this time the Norwegian Christmas tree had burst into life with many twinkling lights followed by a fantastic firework display. It was all quite exhausting so it was time for a strong draft of Glühwein to round off the Evening.
