Visits to Lowes have become less frequent these last few years; Jeff manages most of our home improvement projects with grace and ease and delight I may never muster.

Tonight, though, in search of lighting solutions, I happily made the trek. A few bulbs, a surge protector, a clip light, a dimmer, a three way switch replacement. These longer, darker days require not more illumination, but illumination of a certain quality. Warm, soft, enveloping.

Some folks opt for over-head fixtures that drench a room in brightness and shadow. But do they really prefer this to an uplight, gently diffusing off the ceiling? Or a quiet side lamp letting flow an amber glow? Give me dimmable switches! Let no bulb be unshaded! Let the light set the mood, the vibe, the tone.
