Cox's Road
This morning we walked from Mt York down to Hartley Vale via the Cox's Road Walk.
This was the first road over the Blue Mountains, completed in 1815.
It took William Cox and his team of 28 convicts just 6 months to build the 160km road through steep, rugged bushland using primitive equipment.
The convicts were rewarded for their work with freedom.
Over the years several alternate roads were built and they remain as bushwalks today.
