Intent
MrsCyclops had a work thing in Glasgow today, so we decided to make a day of it. Cyclops and CyclopsJnr went to the park for a bit (lots of scooting in the skate park then lots of playing on swings) then went to the Kelvingrove Galleries and Museum to explore. We had a fab time. CyclopsJnr loved the animals, pretended to hatch from a giant dinosaur egg, and talking about the paintings. There were some very good interactive exhibits, and this one really caught his imagination.
The painting "The Jetties of Trouville-Deauville" by Raoul Dufy was hung low down so as to be accessible to children, and the interactive story was about the artistic process. Visiting the seaside, sketching, building the painting from different components he saw in different places, and the changes he made (like overpainting and moving one of the lighthouses, and changing the colour of a dress). CyclopsJnr was captivated, looking between the screen and the painting as the story unfolded.
Afterwards we picked up MrsCyclops and went to lunch at my friend's new place "Stack and Still" (referring to pancakes and gin respectively).
CyclopsJnr had nap in the car on the way back to Edinburgh, then we had friends over for some play (three kids rampaging) and dinner (three kids trying to rampage but being hauled back to the table to eat). Great fun.
