Delph Works
Work in progress on the Heritage Lottery funded scheme at Worsley Delph. This is where the Duke of Bridgewater mined coal via a vast network of underground canals. And from here the Duke commissioned a new surface canal to carry the coal to Manchester. The Bridgewater Canal, which from 1761 helped kick start the industrial revolution.
Interesting archaeology is being revealed. A new tunnel and two sunken boats for starters.
I am looking forward to seeing the finished result.
