Practice Makes Perfect

I always use manual focus for landscapes but rarely for portraits. This time I tried manual focus at f/1.4.
Although not a bad shot I think the focus is on a point somewhere behind the face, probably around the logo on the hat. If I had used an aperture of say f/4.0 this may not have been noticable but at f/1.4 the margin for error is tiny.
