Humbug

Every year, there's an event to turn on the Christmas lights.  Children and their parents gather by the riverside, grasping decorated umbrellas, and process behind a piper, a drummer, and a marshal up to the centre of town.  There, they mill about until Santa arrives, and he and the Herring Gala Queen switch on the lights.
