Blending In

Along with yesterday's blipped giant bag of peanuts for the squirrels, I bought a large bag of shelled sunflower seeds for the little Dark-eyed Juncos.  Judging by the fact that there were nearly two dozen of them happily eating the seeds today, I think it was one of my better purchases.

Our apartment management has outlawed birdfeeders because they're afraid they'll draw rats, so I scatter some of the sunflower seeds among the rocks around my patio where they blend in and only the sharpest of eyes will see them.  These little guys find them readily enough and gobble them all up long before night falls and any rat might show up.  I've never seen one but I understand the concern.  I bring in my squirrel feeder at night too.
